Wood Construction Series
(2019 - 2020)
In late 2019 I began working more sculpturally in my studio while continuing to explore themes of the body and beauty. The materials in this series of works include found and recycled building materials such as wood and steel, and embellishments such as fake eyelashes, plastic rhinestones, and other products that are meant to temporarily ‘enhance’ female bodies to make them appear more conventionally ‘feminine’. Most of these built structures are tall (around 65”) so their scale relates closely to human proportions. Broadly, I am thinking about the structure of the body, so-called “natural” states of being, and how my body has rejected and conformed to what is asked of it in public and intimate spaces.
