ROYGBIV (2017)
This installation was created during a short-term Artist Residency at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (Arlington, VA). From 2015-2017, I collected donated clothing, undergarments, bed sheets, and other textiles from women. While the fabric itself is imbued with a range of personal, cultural, and political histories, the specific stories are eschewed by the process of tearing the fabric into strips to form a new palette of material, and weaving them all together along a color-based gradient. Viewers are invited to infer their own narratives and make associations based on their personal histories and experiences.
