Drawing & Painting (2021-2025)
Painting and drawing has always been a part of my studio practice, though it's a more recent development that any of my painted and drawn works have resulted in finished pieces that are shown beyond my studio walls. While my subject matter has evolved over time, central points of focus include the body, domestic interiors, and built or natural environments.
From 2021-22, my paintings were inspired by my body's changing physical abilities (and limitations) before and after a major spine surgery. In 2023, I painted scenes of the garden and domestic spaces of my childhood home, which is also where I recovered from surgery--sites of memory, healing and transformation. Since 2024, after my mother died, the subject of my paintings has shifted back toward the figure within built and natural environments, and to compositions where a figure would be expected, but is absent.
