About this piece:
The organic lines and forms that formed the base layer of this drawing were created by tracing shadows that were cast from my body's soft tissue, while pushing my body to its most extreme physical mobility. The loose forms and skin-like hues are overlaid by a white conte drawing of my right-bending X-ray, which was captured before surgery to predict the prognosis for correcting the curvature in my spine. The charcoal paper is carefully mounted to felt with embroidery thread, using a blanket stitch.
This drawing is larger than life, rejecting the impulse to hide my body's deformity and physical limitations, and instead consider its capacity for resilience and strength through vulnerability.
